In fact there are a number of states in the US that have made gambling illegal. These states are refuges for a number of people that choose not to participate in such activity. Other states, like Michigan, have legalized gambling only in specific places. In the case of the state of Michigan you can only gamble in licensed casinos. As a result the meetings of the Grands Rapids Poker Club complete with topless dealers and hostesses, food and drinks at the Ramada Plaza Hotel became the target of a police Raid.

The investigation began with the Craigslist post that advertised the meeting. There were also fliers that were handed out.

The organizers, and possibly some of the participants, were apparently aware that the meetings which had been going on since November were illegal in the state.

The police are not yet certain if any of the hotel's employees were involved in the activity though. As a result none of the hotel employees have been arrested.

This is an example of a case where the law seems to be well defined and despite that someone did something that contradicted it. This instance may not make online gambling look any better, but it may be cause to re-examine the laws in place that govern gambling in person.

It is important to understand the laws in your area. If you do not like them there are often legal ways to protest and attempt to change them. If there are no ways to take action, or you prefer not to, you may want to consider moving to an area where the laws coincide with your actions. Government, structure and organization are, at best, intended to benefit those that reside within it, if the rules inhibit you their intended function is not manifest in your existing under them.
